I am both honored and excited to have been chosen as the new Director of Coaching for CMYSA. Since its inception in 1980, CMYSA has been providing the youth of
Two objectives must be met in order to achieve this goal. The first is a focus on coaching education and mentoring. It is important to help our volunteer coaches feel comfortable and confident in their tasks of teaching our players not only the basic skills of the game at the younger levels, but the nuances and tactical skills required at the older/competitive levels, as well.
The second objective is player development. For our youngest players, a curriculum that introduces them to the basic technical and physical skills will be implemented. This will allow for even more enjoyment regardless of the level of play each participant aspires to. For players motivated to play at more competitive levels as they get older, an advanced curriculum that builds on the basics acquired at earlier ages will be incorporated. This curriculum will include age-appropriate defending and attacking tactical themes, as well as more complicated technical, physical, and psychological elements.
I will do all that I can to enlist the services of area college coaches, experienced high school coaches, and qualified/passionate college players. Within this group lie immense experience, knowledge, and energy for coaching and spreading the game of soccer. We must utilize these resources to help improve and expand the quality of CMYSA.
Finally, it is important mention how critical the role of parent support is to our success both on and off the soccer field. As we begin the 2013 year, I want to encourage our parents to get involved as volunteer coaches, managers, and fundraisers. I also want to thank all of our current volunteers for their efforts. CMYSA relies heavily on parental involvement. Without you, we would not be able to give our youth these great opportunities.
I am excited about the future of CMYSA, and I thank each of you for your efforts to help make 2013 the most successful year yet.
